Don't ask me how I started watching some Gold Cup games on Univision despite a complete lack of understanding for the Spanish language and soccer, but I was able to catch the US-T&T game over the weekend. It was at halftime of that game that something very surprising happened. As they showed the standings of the Gold Cup, I discovered a country that I never heard of before in my life; Guadeloupe. Where?? Does that place actually exisit? As a political science major, I was actually embarrassed to think that there might be a country in North America that I never knew existed. Thinking that maybe it was some sort of bad Spanish translation, I investigated to find out if Guadeloupe was a real country. To my surprise, it is a real country.....sorta. It's actually a territory of France, but that's beside the point. That fact is that it is a real place I've never heard of. Here is what Guadeloupe looks like.......
Not only is Guadeloupe a real country, but the soccer team is shocking everyone in the Gold Cup. They upset Canada 2-1 and are currently in 1st place of Group A with 4 points. All this despite the fact that their uniforms look like the same ones that I wore for my 3rd grade AYSO team. Every color of the rainbow included.
So good luck Guadeloupe. I may not watch another game of the Gold Cup, but just know that you have a big fan at JCMJ.

Upset Canada? You never hear that unless the words "hockey", "curling", or "biggest douchebags" are involved.
Hey, don't hate on Canadians, but their soccer team is the equivalent of the 9th grade varsity down the street from my place.
