Terrible Jersey Hall of Fame: Wang Zhi Zhi Dallas Mavericks Jersey

JCMJ Terrible Jersey Nominee

Wang Zhi Zhi - Dallas Mavericks

Owner: Fun Sherrif of Lion in Oil

Year It Was Purchased : 2001

Age When Purchased: High School

Jersey Category:
I bought this jersey solely because it said "Wang" on the back.

Why Is It Terrible? Forget about the fact that he was the first Chinese-born player to play in the NBA (take that, Yao), or that he averaged only 4.4 points in his illustrious NBA career. Forget that Cuban and the Mavs drafted him in the second round without him ever declaring for the draft... The back of the jersey said Wang on it! As a high-schooler, it didn't get any better than that. I wore it to school, I wore it to basketball practice. I thought I was the coolest. This jersey may be terrible. But it's great at the same time. Had there been no player, buying a personalized jersey with Wang on it would have been deemed childish and obnoxious. With Wang around, I could sheepishly say I was a fan. Smirk and all. Alas, I no longer know the whereabouts of this fine jersey. Maybe I lent it to a friend for a party without ever getting it back. Maybe I just lost it. But as the photo shows, I'll never lose my connection with the big Wang.

As a Mavs fan I know all about Wang Zhi Zhi. The best part about Wang? Whenever he came off the Mavs' bench and entered the game, the arena would play a loud Gong noise. The crowd laughed hysterically every time.

I dunno, 50 bucks or so sounds like a lot for just a joke...but I guess it's worth it to have a wang on your back

Why do you think I own a Yankees' Wang jersey? Because it says WANG!
