College Hoops Fix: 1/29

Alright people, we are just a little over 1 month away from March. Which of course means that this blog begins to focus on college hoops. Welcome to the College Hoops Fix, coming every Monday and Thursday morning now until March, breaking down the college hoops scene. I'm surprised at the lack of college basketball it on the blogsphere ( compared to college football and the NFL) so I'm looking to make JCMJ your college basketball blog.

COLLEGE HOOPS FIX: MONDAY 1/29

TEAMS OF THE WEEK

Georgia -
Don't look now, but the Bulldogs are going to make a run for March after huge victories over Kentucky and LSU this week.

Washington
- Won 2 much needed Pac 10 games, including a huge home win against Top 10 Oregon, to keep March dreams alive

HAD A BAD WEEK

Clemson -
Two stomach punch losses this week. First, they lose at Duke due to some clock problems. Then, the Tigers get outscored 15-0 to UVA down the stretch for their 4th loss in 5 games

Tennessee/LSU Tie -
Both SEC teams drop two games this week. Tennessee needs Chris Lofton back ASAP (or I'm going to look like a fool) and LSU needs some help for Big Baby

INTRODUCING.....

Duquesne -
Maybe the best story in college hoops this season. After 4 members of the team were shot in the preseason, the Dukes have rebounded for a pretty solid season thus far. With wins this week over Dayton and Temple, there is no reason to believe the Dukes can't challenge in the weak A-10.

Louisville -
Remember these guys? Not talked about much at all this year, the Cardinals are finally hitting their stride. They have won 3 straight including an impressive win Saturday against Syracuse

SCORES THAT MADE YOU LOOK TWICE

North Carolina 92 Arizona 64
Carolina that good or Zona that bad?

Stanford 75 UCLA 68
Testament to how deep the Pac 10 is this year.

ON THE BUBBLE (GOOD)

BYU -
A win over Air Force will qualify as that marquee win that they had been lacking

Vanderbilt - Big wins this week over LSU, Kentucky, and Bama make up for some bad early season losses (Wake Forest, Furman)

ON THE BUBBLE (BAD)

Alabama -
Don't let that #12 (and going to fall like a boulder) ranking fool you, this team has only quality win this year and is squarely on the bubble

Syracuse - Losses to Louisville and St. Johns puts yo
u back on the bubble.

BEYOND THE BUBBLE

Connecticut
- at 2-5 in the Big East, it's time to look at next for the Huskies

Missouri St
- Early season darling has now lost 3 of 4 in the MVC to fall behind the likes of Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Creighton.

MID-MAJORS OF THE WEEK

VCU
- Wins at Drexel and George Mason make the Rams close to an NCAA lock.

Central Connecticut State - Win over Sacred Heart puts the Blue Devils in control of the NEC

I didn't think I'd be saying this, but it looks like Arizona, LSU, Alabama, and Syracuse are all firmly on the bubble at this point. Shocking.
